Kirkland adopts Urban Forest Plan to expand canopy, diversify parkway trees

The 34-page plan inventories parkway and open-space trees, reports canopy percentages (Historic neighborhood ~30%; Kennedy Homes ~13%; Kirkwood ~12%), and recommends diversifying species away from overplanted maples, establishing maintenance standards, promoting a 50-50 resident planting program, and pursuing grants and community education. The plan lists short-term goals for 2024–2025 and longer-term equipment and staffing needs (for example, a bucket truck noted as still needed).
