Council adopts forest-conservation ordinance based on state draft; DNR approval still required

The Havre de Grace City Council adopted Ordinance 1225 on Aug. 3 to repeal and replace City Code Chapter 81 (Forest Conservation). Council members said the language largely follows a draft model ordinance supplied by the state and accepted a friendly, typographical amendment during the meeting.
A city staff member explained that the local text is based on the state's draft model and that the Department of Natural Resources must approve the city’s ordinance before it becomes enforceable. "The department of natural resources needs to approve this before it can be formally put in place in the city," the staff member said. Council voted 5–0 to pass the measure and will transmit it to DNR as the next step.
