Councilman Cloutier: downtown parking garage plan tied to hotel and office development

City Councilman Patrick Cloutier told the Visit McKinney board that council has been discussing a proposed parking garage on the northeast part of the square and asked staff and MEDC to help identify a hotel partner so the garage could serve both a future office building and a hotel. "We've instructed staff and and asked MEDC to help us with finding out a partner for a hotel so we can make sure that where we do locate a parking garage there in, let's call it, the Northeastern part of the square, it could serve both an office building... and a hotel," Cloutier said.
Cloutier said parking garages are expensive and that the number of additional spaces would depend on the site, estimating "anywhere from, I think, 300 to 600" new spaces. He cautioned the structure would not solve all downtown parking needs and said council would continue discussions at upcoming work sessions.
