City representative says Avelo marketing and venue work signal airport progress

Paul Grimes, representing the City of McKinney, told the McKinney Economic Development Corporation board that construction at the airport and the adjacent venue is moving forward and that Avelo Airlines will begin marketing routes at the end of June. "Avelo airlines has told us or announced that they intend to commence their marketing campaign, with announced routes on June 30," Grimes said, noting the city expects route and fare announcements to follow.
Grimes described visible progress at the site — cranes lifting girders and active construction — and asked the board to anticipate municipal actions tied to airport certification. He said the council will consider fee schedule and regulatory adjustments to meet "Part 139 passenger service" requirements before commercial operations begin. The board was told the council agenda that evening included the airport items and other related approvals.
