Douglas County received 50+ nonprofit applications for community service grants; administrators describe review and contracting process

Dr. Corbin explained the county received over 50 applications totaling about $2,700,000 in requests and that roughly $5,515,000 is available for awards; staff formed a review committee to process the unusually large number of applications.
Dr. Corbin emphasized the need for contractability and standards: awarded organizations will enter into MOUs or contracts to ensure services are delivered rather than treating the funds as one‑time gifts. "If you give someone the dollars, it can't be a gift... So we enter into an MOU and a contract for the services you're providing," he said; the county expects decisions to appear on a public meeting agenda in the near term.
