Board counsel and a representative warn against airing grievance details during public comment

Board members and an outside representative warned that public comment at a special meeting is limited to posted agenda items and urged that grievance records should not be discussed by someone who was not a party to the grievance.
At the start of the meeting the board reiterated rules about public comment and the Texas Open Meetings Act. Doctor Jaime Rodriguez explained that the board may not deliberate on matters not posted on the agenda, that only limited factual information may be provided in response to inquiries, and that comments not on the agenda are subject to restriction.
Tony Connors, who identified himself as present "on behalf of the agreement," said he was concerned a public commenter might disclose information that was part of the level-1 or level-2 grievance record and urged the board to prevent discussion of confidential grievance content by someone who was not a party to the grievance. A board member responded that he would stop a speaker if they made references to the grievance record.
"I'm concerned he's gonna say information in public... he doesn't have a right to talk about the grievance or the contents of the grievance if he was not a party to the grievance and he wasn't part of the process," Connors said.
