Several public commenters used the non-agenda public comment slot to highlight local services and community celebrations. Paul Ballesteros, founder of Emmanuel Labor, described his faith-based nonprofit’s work addressing homelessness and urged continued community support.
"Our mission in short is removing the lessness from homelessness in Jesus' name, here in McKinney and wherever the Lord leads us," Ballesteros said, describing outreach work and the need to support people experiencing sleep deprivation, trauma and stigma.
Rujia Gupta, representing the McKinney branch of Hindu Sewa Seva Sangh (HSS), marked the 250th anniversary of American independence and highlighted the Hindu American community’s civic engagement and charitable contributions.
City staff announced two upcoming engagement opportunities: a Better Together community feedback session on McKinney’s unhoused community (Thursday, July 9, 6–7 p.m. at Old Settlers Recreation Center) and a low-cost pet microchipping event (Saturday, July 18, 8–10 a.m. at 4750 Community Avenue; chips $15 and include registration). Staff also estimated the July 4 event drew roughly 15,000–20,000 attendees and invited additional feedback through July 8 via the city website.
