Residents urge council to review aggressive tree trimming along several McKinney streets

During public comment, resident Martha Sue Monroe asked council to review recent, aggressive tree trimming that she has observed along Wattle, Lamar, Morris and Hill streets and urged officials to preserve neighborhood trees while recognizing safety needs.
"There is some very stark tree trimming going on in certain areas along Wattle, Lamar, Morris Street, Hill Street," Monroe said, asking the council to check on the work and consider its visual impact. In council comments later in the meeting, members acknowledged the concern, said city arborists had inspected affected streets and would continue work the following day, but cautioned that the utility company Encore has protections that limit what the city can require regarding trimming.
Council members said they would continue to press Encore and coordinate with staff and that they were trying to balance preservation of tree canopy with safety needs for power-line clearance. The council did not take a formal action on the matter during the meeting.
