Council approves rezoning to let Catholic Charities develop community service site

Council approved a rezoning to consolidate a small remnant parcel into a Plan Development district so Catholic Charities of Dallas can operate a nonprofit/community service center near West White Street and Red Bud Boulevard; P&Z recommended approval and the council voted 6-0.
City planning staff presented a rezoning request to modify a Plan Development (PD) district and allow commercial and nonprofit community service uses on a small remnant parcel approximately 300 feet north of West White Street on the east side of Red Bud Boulevard. Staff said the parcel is being purchased from the city by Catholic Charities of Dallas to consolidate zoning and permit the organization's existing use across the larger site.
"That parcel there is being purchased from the city of McKinney, by the, Catholic Charities of Dallas organization," Planning Director Lucas Raley told the council, noting Planning & Zoning heard the item and unanimously recommended approval. Casey Gregory of Sanchez and Associates, representing the applicants, thanked staff and council and said the project would help coordinate services for residents across Collin County.
No speakers registered in opposition. Councilwoman Feltes moved to close the hearing and approve the rezoning; a second was recorded and the council approved the ordinance 6-0.
The rezoning action is intended to simplify development standards and allow the nonprofit to continue and expand coordinated service delivery on the consolidated site.
