Representatives from CSEA and ESTA and several classroom teachers used the public-comment period to press the board on labor negotiations and employee compensation. Ron, speaking for CSEA, said the union's successor proposal is "designed to strengthen EUHSD as an employer" and asked the district to separate salary increases from rising health-benefit costs. He warned the March 15 layoff deadline is approaching and urged the board to protect employees' livelihoods.
ESTA representative Anna, and multiple teachers, described exhaustion after working without a contract and asked the board to direct district negotiators to return to the table. Anna told the board "everyone in here has been working without a contract for 225 days," and Jessica Rogers and others cited personal and student impacts. One teacher, AJ Wood, estimated the district spends roughly $385,000 per year on teacher turnover, citing a calculation based on 321 teachers and a national 11% turnover rate.
