EUHSD highlights growth in Career Technical Education: 42% of students enrolled

Mia Funk, the district's CTE lead, told the board that Career Technical Education is expanding across Escondido Union High School District and delivering measurable outcomes. "This year, 42 percent of our students are enrolled in CTE," she said, noting a 1.9-point increase in enrollment and pathway completion of 31 percent. Funk said more than 1,300 students participated in work-based learning and 631 earned articulated college credit, a 21% increase from the prior year.
Funk and colleagues said CTE pathways now include advanced manufacturing, construction, business, culinary, graphic technology and transportation, and that the district will align to California's updated career-cluster framework over the next three years. Board members asked about partnerships and integration with programs such as Project NEXT; Funk said the district coordinates student interest inventories and targeted field experiences and cited examples of internships tied to classroom coursework. A student intern described a six-week placement as "life changing," underscoring the program's role in connecting classroom learning to local labor-market needs.
