Committee reviews handbook overhaul including AI guidelines and revised discipline matrix

Chair (S1) opened the Discipline Committee meeting and presented a package of handbook updates that the administration has consolidated for the upcoming school year. “So we did add those guidelines into our student code of conduct for this school year,” the Chair said, describing additions that include AI guidelines first discussed by Mister Whitby in July, a seclusion and restraint policy updated by doctor Marquette Rideau, and a newly included administration of medication policy. The Chair said the three policies discussed over the past 12 months were incorporated into the handbook and will be reviewed by the full board.
The Chair emphasized format and clarity changes intended to make the handbook easier to use: the handbook layout changed from landscape to portrait, a new cover was created, FERPA information and a HIPAA-related section were included, and the superintendent’s strategic plan priorities were added. The Chair told members the handbook will go before the full board on Thursday and, if approved, be posted electronically with paper copies produced thereafter.
