Council moves to centralize accessory-building standards in zoning code

Planner Josh explained that the November update scattered accessory standards across district tables, creating inconsistencies and extra work for permit staff. "Prior to that, we had all of our accessory building standards just in one spot. In the new update, they put the different standards in each district individually and may vary slightly depending on the district. We found that to be quite cumbersome and quite unnecessary in most cases," he said. The proposal moves standards back into one location and clarifies rules for accessory dwelling units.
Councilors voted in favor on the motion's first reading after brief discussion. The change aims to streamline permitting and reduce confusion for property owners and staff.
