Beach Road seawall project moves forward as PG&E schedule briefly delays start

Tony, a city staff member, told the council the Beach Road Stabilization Project has had oversight-committee meetings and staff memoranda while the construction contract was awarded to Gordon N. Ball Construction in April. Staff said environmental permits and temporary construction easements have been obtained and that the engineering team revised its approach to use soil injection of permeation grout behind the seawall at gangway entrances so gangways and utilities can remain in place during construction.
Tony described a scheduling risk when PG&E informed the city that its crew was delayed three weeks and would not begin until August 3, which could have pushed the contractor's schedule past the October 30 deadline. Staff escalated communications and said PG&E later told them crews may start sooner, possibly on July 20 or even the week of the meeting. "PG and E informed the city that their crew was delayed by 3 weeks," Tony said. Staff will continue coordination, post a project web page, send citywide notification letters (with QR code to the project page), and have an on‑site construction manager to interface with residents.
