FCPS expands canine program to detect firearms and some drugs in schools

Pervis Dawson announced the canine detection program that assigns a handler and a dog trained to detect firearms, firearm components, ammunition and some illicit drugs. Dawson said the program moved from pilot status and visits will be coordinated through regional assistant superintendents and principals.
He described the canine as "another tool in our toolbox" to keep students and staff safe and said families may see canine visits at schools and activities during the year.
