FCPS webinar explains lockdowns, 'secure the building' and other safety terms

The video stated, "Lockdown is a heightened security measure meant to isolate students and staff from a threat inside the building or on school grounds," and that other terms cover threats nearby, hazardous substances outside, or traffic and storm impacts.
Dawson said parents should expect frequent drills early in the year and that schools will give families 24 to 48 hours' notice before drills without specifying exact times. He reminded families that students will not be released during a shelter in place or stay put/stay tuned situation until public safety officials give the all‑clear.
