Trustees press for mandatory attendance by department heads at monthly meetings

Trustee Steve Retzer told the board he wanted clarity on why department heads have been absent from meetings and urged that department heads attend the monthly sessions. President Richard Samples responded by identifying where each department head was and said he would make attendance mandatory for department heads at the monthly meetings.

Trustee Paula Belobrajdic-Stewart noted that the Oct. 17 Committee of the Whole date conflicts with a school Trunk-or-Treat event, and trustees agreed to move the meeting start time to 7:00 p.m. so trustees could attend community events while maintaining committee scheduling.

No formal personnel policy was adopted at the meeting; Samples said he would require department-head attendance going forward and staff will need to follow up with any related policy or scheduling changes.
