Fire chief: Village awarded grant for SCBA equipment; department will assess disposal of old gear

Fire Chief Rich Evans told trustees on Aug. 22 that he has received word the department was awarded a grant to replace its self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment, though he said he was waiting for official confirmation.
"I am waiting for official confirmation, but I have received word that the Village Fire Department was awarded the grant for the SCBA equipment," Evans said. He added the current, older gear is not compatible with the new units and the department will research whether selling the old equipment is feasible and how to proceed.
Trustees did not vote on any action related to the grant at the meeting; Chief Evans said staff will report back with more information once the award is confirmed and options for the old equipment are evaluated.
