Members of the Kosciusko County ad hoc redevelopment committee agreed to take two recommendations to the redevelopment commission: expand economic‑development allocation areas around South Shore and the US 30/West 5th corridor, and work with KEDCO to identify appropriate boundaries.
A staff member showed a draft map and said expanding the allocation area could allow the county to direct captured increment to infrastructure such as utility extensions and trail connections. A committee member said KEDCO should be asked to provide a recommendation on appropriate, defensible boundaries and that the committee should collaborate with county staff (including Steve) to identify where investment would be most effective.
The group emphasized being intentional about boundaries to avoid opening the county to unrelated requests for EDA money and advised keeping the areas contiguous and focused near major thoroughfares. Staff will prepare bullet points for the redevelopment commission and follow up with KEDCO and county staff.
