Groundbreaking marks start of St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Support Services Facility

County leaders marked the start of construction for the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Support Services Facility, which will consolidate forensic science, evidence storage, specialty vehicle operations and records to improve coordination and efficiency.
County Administrator David Weiskopf opened the ceremony and announced the start of construction for the Saint Mary's County Sheriff's Office Support Services Facility, calling the event the culmination of years of planning and interagency collaboration. "Welcome to today's groundbreaking ceremony for the Saint Mary's County Sheriff's Office Support Services Facility," he said, noting the building will house the forensic science unit, evidence and property storage, specialty vehicle operations and records.
Weiskopf said consolidating those functions into a purpose-built facility will "improve coordination, increase operational efficiency, and provide a dedicated space designed specifically for these essential services." He thanked the commissioners, the sheriff's office, the Department of Public Works and Transportation, project architects, engineers, consultants, contractors and county staff for their work bringing the project to construction.
