Board approves personnel report, recognizes teacher's 40-plus years of service

The South Vermillion Com Sch Corp held a special session on Aug. 3, 2026, and approved a personnel report preparing schools for the start of the 2026-27 school year. Board Chair Doreen presided; Dr. Williams presented the personnel items and asked if there were questions before the vote.
Dr. Williams recognized the retirement of Jill Wright, a third-grade teacher at Band 9 Elementary, saying, "So Jill, if you're watching, congratulations, on 40 plus years with us." The board listed Jill Wright's retirement as effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
The personnel report included a non-certified resignation: Kaitlyn Cooprider, an instructional aide at Van Dyne Elementary, effective at the end of the 2025-26 school year. It also recommended transfers and assignments effective for the 2026-27 school year: Angie Buecher (involuntary transfer to Southland Middle School, special education), Amber Pitts (will split STEM classes between Central Elementary and Van Dyne), Tracy Jones (voluntary transfer from Van Dyne Elementary to Southland High School), and Aiden Devins (transfer between Van Dyne and Central Elementary). The board also approved the hire of Elizabeth Gaughman for district assignment.
A motion to approve the personnel report was made, seconded and approved; the record captures multiple "aye" responses and the chair declared, "Motion carries." The board closed the meeting after confirming there were no public comments and reminded attendees the regular August meeting is scheduled for Aug. 17, 2026.
