Following the failed confirmation of the mayors nominee, a board member provided a procedural clarification about the vacant alderman seat. The board member said the failed vote means Mister Crump remains in the seat as the holdover member until the mayor nominates and the board confirms a replacement by majority.
"Mister mayor, you still have the authority to appoint another person if you so choose. But until that time in which an appointment is made and that person is confirmed by a majority vote of the remaining members of the board, Mister Crump will continue to serve in that seat," the committee member said. The statement clarified the immediate status of the seat and outlined the confirmation requirement.
