Council selects Public Utility Solutions for sewer and storm repairs, citing availability amid DOT repaving

Staff recommended Public Utility Solutions despite another bidder (Columbus Utilities) having a lower price, citing earlier availability and a DOT repaving timeline that makes prompt work important.
"Public Utility Solutions can get to this next week, and Columbus says ... expected start date is mid September. Normally, mid September would be fine with us, but, however, DOT is about to repave Fayetteville Street, so time is of the essence at this point," a staff member said, explaining the recommendation. Staff also discussed bid presentation formats and line-item differences and described the cost difference between options as roughly $6,000; council asked questions about vendor familiarity and then moved and approved the staff recommendation.
