The Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District Board voted to adopt the 2024–25 Comprehensive School Safety Plan during its March 11 meeting following a staff presentation and board discussion.

The presenter said student feedback identified vaping as a top concern: "the vaping seemed to be their top concern," and the district has expanded vape detectors and cameras in restrooms and other spaces to address it. The presentation also outlined staff training carried out last year (including a stop‑the‑bleed exercise) and scheduled Narcan administration training for administrators and campus supervisors; staff said units are being placed "strategically throughout campus" and the county education office is providing training materials and in‑person instruction.
Board members asked for operational details—where Narcan units would be stored and who would be trained. Staff responded that the nurse, campus supervisors, the athletic trainer and the school resource deputy would have access and that the county grant includes laminated quick‑reference instructions with each unit. After questions, a board member moved to approve the safety plan; the motion passed by roll call.
