Board honors three students of the month; superintendent highlights Women’s History Month

The Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District Board of Education recognized three students of the month at its March 11 meeting, citing academic achievement, community service and extracurricular leadership. Superintendent Kim introduced Sadie Godfrey, who was honored for a weighted GPA of 4.7 and awards in visual art; Elon Torres and Micah Hardy Muñoz were also spotlighted for high academic marks and involvement in student leadership and FFA, respectively.
"Sadie has a weighted GPA of 4.7," the superintendent said while listing awards and scholarships that accompanied the student recognition. The board presentation noted that Sadie won the Jaysen Family Foundation 'best of show' scholarship and a $3,500 award, and that Elon received an art scholarship and is a National Honor Society member. Micah was recognized as the Elks Club March student of the month for academic and community service achievements, including several college courses and FFA participation.
The superintendent also used the report to mark Women’s History Month and to recap recent campus events: a leadership conference that hosted more than 60 women leaders in the county, a ribbon‑cutting for newly completed beach volleyball courts funded in part by alumni and the Pirate Foundation, and upcoming school performances. The recognitions were presented as an opportunity to celebrate student success and community partnerships; board members commended the students and the district’s ongoing engagement with local organizations.
