A motion to issue a request for proposals to solicit offers for a 1-acre city-owned parcel on Garner Road passed after brief discussion Tuesday.
A staff member described the site during the meeting: "We have 1 acre on Garner Road, which you can see in this red square," and said the parcel was purchased by the city in 1978 with the intent to potentially locate a water tower. "The water and sewer does not have a need for that site," the staff member added, saying there are no active intended uses and the city has received inquiries about whether it might be interested in selling the property.
A nearby resident, noting the lot's proximity to their home, asked what prospective buyers intended to do with the land. The resident said the parcel was "behind my house," raising access and compatibility questions. Staff responded that specific uses would depend on future proposals and reiterated the recommendation to issue an RFP to discover possible uses and offers.
After brief comments from committee members about the city's lack of need for the site, a motion to approve issuing an RFP was made, seconded and put to a vote. The meeting recorded three affirmative vocal responses and the motion carried, authorizing staff to proceed with an RFP to solicit offers for the Garner Road parcel. The meeting then moved on to other business.
