Chief Jordan told the Select Board the woods fire on Bolsters Mills Road required mutual aid from 18 fire departments across three counties and two ambulances, and that three rangers from the Maine Forest Service assisted. The operation used an excavator and a helicopter and required Otisfield personnel to commit 105 hours over two days.
"Deputy Chief Ryan Fox handled the incident with exceptional skill," Chief Jordan said, and the board thanked local helpers including Polly's Variety for providing food and Jim Howard for assisting with the boat ramp, tent, water and shade. The chief noted the excavator's cost is expected to be significant but said it reduced personnel hours. Four departments joined cleanup efforts after the incident.
