County health staff say state assembly's DEI records request is broad and time-consuming

The Vernon County health director reported that on Feb. 27 the Wisconsin State Assembly Committee on Governmental Operations issued a records request seeking grant agreements and documents mentioning diversity, equity, inclusion or belonging dating to 2019. Staff told the committee the request is countywide and could be labor-intensive to fulfill.
"It's finding those documents and providing and this is going back to 2019 as well," said Cassie, a county staff member handling the request, explaining why the department is working to narrow the scope and coordinate with the county association. Staff said the association is advising counties and the health department will follow guidance to limit needless burden while complying as required.
The director said local leaders recently met with Representative Carol Johnson and community partners to discuss how potential federal funding freezes could affect preparedness, outreach and contracted services. Committee members asked for clarity about what will be produced and how the county will manage the search and production timeline.
