David Schott, presenting on the East City Park stage replacement, told council the project is currently out to bid and the city has scheduled a bid opening "in late August on August 25." He said the architect's cost estimate for the project is "$781,000," and that, if a bid is accepted, staff would issue a notice to proceed with construction expected to take 151 calendar days and reach final completion around April 6 (with art installation and turf establishment to follow).
Councilors questioned staff on several operational details: whether a concrete "Dancers Plaza" should be bid as an alternate or leave grass up to the council, how the proposed concrete ring would affect pedestrian circulation and accessibility, which trees might be removed (staff said one tree will likely be removed), how horseshoe pits would be preserved or moved (staff said pits would be rebuilt at Gormley Park and one pit retained at East City Park), restroom capacity during events, and demolition sequencing to avoid gaps in public-use availability. Schott said the Dancers Plaza would be a bid alternate and that staff would include management and signage considerations for event operations.
