The board of the City of Port of Public Works voted July 16 to approve Change Order No. 3 for a Community Crossings project to convert a short gravel stub on High Street into a paved public parking lot. The mayor said the addition is a lump-sum increase of $24,000 to the contract and that the redevelopment commission will cover the cost.
The mayor described the stub as a city road the city previously believed was private and said the new lot will include grading, paving, curbs, markings and signage and is expected to provide about six to eight public spaces for nearby townhouse residents and their visitors. The mayor said Sigma — the building that sustained flood damage — agreed to a small public parking lot in lieu of direct payment for repairs. "So the lump sum parking lot addition is 24,000," the mayor said. The motion to approve was made by Thompson, seconded by Maggie Wilde, and carried by voice vote.
