City staff informed the council that the I‑5 Sacramento River lift station lost a pump two weekends earlier and that the facility is currently running on a single pump with a motor beyond its life cycle. Staff said many of the lift-station controls date to the 1960s and parts are obsolete.
"We lost a pump two weekends ago... we're currently running on one pump that is with a motor that is in past its life cycle," the city manager said, noting the need to update variable-frequency drives (VFDs) and motors. Staff requested a budget amendment increasing the emergency repair budget from $10,000 to $35,000 to cover equipment and call-out costs.
Council discussed the timeline for a comprehensive master-plan update for sewer infrastructure and the need to budget for larger upgrades in the future, but agreed the emergency amendment was necessary to restore reliable service. The council approved the amendment and directed staff to report back with final costs when the project is complete.
