The Dunsmuir City Council voted to adopt a project list to receive SB1 (gas-tax) funding for fiscal year 2025–26, approving Resolution 2025-06 by roll-call vote.
Staff explained SB1 funds must be used for street and road purposes and said the city must submit a project list to receive the money. An estimated $44,681 in SB1 receipts was cited for the coming fiscal year; staff characterized the amount as useful for minor improvements or as supplemental funds for larger grant-funded projects but not large-scale street rehabilitation.
During public comment, resident Dwight Bailey urged the council to use funds to repair an identified drainage issue on Castle Avenue where a valve installation during water-main work has prevented stormwater from reaching the storm drain and caused icing and localized flooding risks. "The water does not flow to the storm drains and never has since it's been repaired," Bailey said, adding that he feared potential lawsuits if the hazard remains unaddressed.
Council member (mover) brought the resolution forward and the council approved it by roll call; council members recorded affirmative votes. Council members also noted other small funds (fund 58 and fund 59 mentioned) and reiterated that SB1 is limited in scope.
