Residents urge theater reopening to boost downtown, others call group tactics deceptive

Not everyone agreed. Mark Juarez told the council he believed a group called Densmeier Live had used deceptive tactics and that past reopenings of the California Theater did not produce lasting foot traffic. "They have never invited me, made me aware of them," Juarez said, adding that the community has worked for years on a different plan to attract people to town.
Why it matters: Reviving a downtown anchor could increase visitation and commerce, but speakers offered divergent views on feasibility and local stewardship. Council did not take formal action on theater reopening at the meeting; the discussion occurred during the public comment period and was not agendized as a staff item.
