Habitat for Humanity highlights MCDC-funded homes as McKinney agency marks 30 years

Stephanie Krungovich, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Collin County, told the McKinney Community Development Corporation board that MCDC investments have directly supported affordable homeownership and home repairs across the city. "We build homes for affordable homeownership...Over 30 plus years, that's more than 220 homes built, over 1,200 home repairs," Krungovich said during a presentation highlighting the agency's partnership with MCDC.

Krungovich walked the board through recent uses of MCDC funding, saying that since 2005 MCDC has awarded nearly $6,000,000 to Habitat projects. She described Cotton Groves as a flagship development — 35 homes with container homes, an amenity center and playground — and said new townhomes and ongoing repairs will welcome additional families as construction continues into 2026 and 2027. Board members noted the scale of MCDC's broader funding: the meeting's anniversary video and a board speaker cited that MCDC has awarded about $330,000,000 in projects since voters approved a 0.5-cent sales tax in 1996.

Krungovich thanked the board and emphasized volunteer leverage: "McKinney's investment is amplified here by 80% volunteer effort," she said, describing how those dollars are combined with volunteer labor and other partners to deliver homes and repairs. The presentation closed with the board's reminder that project-grant applications will be voted on at a future meeting, and that the promotional-grant applicants presenting that morning were part of MCDC's 30th-anniversary partner spotlight.
