Committee pauses north bus garage remodel, explores temporary coverings and walkways

"I think that we've been spinning our wheels on this. . . we just kind of, put the brakes on it," the chair said, urging the committee not to invest heavily in a partial fix for an older structure. Members and staff discussed lower-cost interim measures such as awnings, a covered walkway or temporary carports for events to reduce exposure to rain and snow while staff study a long-term approach.
Facilities staff offered to trial temporary carports and to estimate costs for a non-enclosed roof structure that might avoid some permitting requirements. The committee asked staff to return with general cost estimates and, in the interim, to consider deploying temporary coverings to test whether they address staff concerns about outdoor access to bathrooms and dispatch areas.
