Board honors Girls State delegates from district schools

The El Monte Union High School District board recognized students selected as 2025 American Legion Auxiliary Girls State delegates and heard speeches from delegates about civic learning, leadership and plans to promote civic engagement locally.
The El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees on Sept. 3 recognized students chosen as delegates to the 2025 American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program and presented certificates and district pins.
Delegates described weeklong activities at Sacramento State University that included city-level government simulations, guest speakers and hands-on law and public-policy exercises. "Girls State gave me leadership skills and more importantly gave me friendships I will treasure forever," said Bridget Rodas, a senior at Arroyo High School. Other delegates from Arroyo, El Monte, Mountain View, Rosemead and South El Monte thanked sponsors including the El Monte American Legion Auxiliary Unit 261 and ALA District 18.
Superintendent Dr. Zuniga and the board praised the students' civic engagement and encouraged them to share program lessons with classmates. The board presented certificates of recognition on behalf of the district and invited delegates to wear the district pin with pride.
