District administrators provided start-of-year operational updates during the Aug. 13 meeting. Superintendent Dr. Rachel Valenzuela reported enrollment totals as of noon the meeting day: Mark West Elementary 429, San Miguel Elementary 398, John B. Riebli Elementary 412, and Mark West Charter 123. Director of Instructional Services Lisa Warne described professional development activity and said over 400 letters were distributed for the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program; she also reported certification activity for staff safety training.
Ms. Warne described the professional development and training status: "Beginning with Discovery Science; we hosted two facilitators during our Professional Development Day.", and the minutes state that "Ms. Warne, a certified CPI trainer, certified 22 staff members as 'trained' in crisis and safety interventions." IT Manager Jose Santamaria reported work to set up programs for teachers and assisted Spanish-speaking families with data confirmation at parent support nights. Director of Maintenance Mason Nakamura noted summer maintenance and site cleaning prior to the school year.
