Chronic absenteeism falls to 8% after district interventions, staff say

Presenter told the board chronic absenteeism has dropped dramatically after outreach and monitoring efforts. "We ended, '24, '25 with 8%, which is pretty much what we ended the, previous year with," the presenter said, noting 34 students were classified as chronically absent in the most recent year.
Staff described a multi-pronged approach: monthly monitoring during the opening weeks of school, independent-study options for planned absences, school attendance review meetings for families with repeated absences and escalation to the county/district attorney’s office when required. The presenter said the district will focus on the first 20–30 days of the 25–26 school year to reduce repeat chronic cases and will include attendance slides in back-to-school presentations so parents know independent-study procedures.
