KYTC awarded $24M BUILD grant to reopen Frankfort's century-old 'Singing Bridge'

Sewell said the agency intends to replace the bridge in a configuration similar to its historic layout and is coordinating with the City of Frankfort on design and project decisions. "Bridge will be built to current standards and will not, don't anticipate having any restrictions on it when it opens," Sewell said when asked about load-bearing limits. KYTC told the committee it anticipates letting the project toward the end of calendar year 2027 and called the timeline accelerated.
Legislators pressed for clarity on lane configuration and pedestrian access; KYTC said those decisions remain under development but that the department is working jointly with the city on project scope and standards.
