An applicant proposing an ALD promotional display described a multi-piece decommissioned helicopter to be delivered by 45-foot trailer, assembled on the street and placed partially onto the curb so the planned footprint would meet the required 15-foot emergency lane. The applicant said blades would remain closed and that a rotor crane would be used to assemble the pieces on site.
Committee members raised multiple concerns about the proposal's length and impact on sidewalk flow and the 15-foot fire lane. "I am definitely concerned about the fire lane and impeding the sidewalk would be my main concerns," one committee member said. The applicant said they would schedule a walk-through with the Entertainment PD and NYPD and would shorten the display if Sapo determined the length or siting caused unsafe conditions.
