Jessica Stewart told the city council that this year’s municipal-court school-supplies program collected 923 items donated by citizens in lieu of paying parking and other municipal fines. “Today, we have 923 items,” Stewart said, adding staff pride in serving underserved communities.
Calissa Borman, manager of the New Heights Community Resource Center, accepted the donation on behalf of Tuscaloosa City Schools and described distribution plans: supplies will be made available to families who register at the center and some materials, such as graph paper, will be sent directly to teachers. Council members thanked staff and emphasized the program’s alignment with city priorities to support underserved students.
