Town Manager Suzanne Harvey told the council the fire department is seeking a replacement ladder truck because the current apparatus is nearing the end of its useful life and because equipment condition affects the town’s ISO rating and insurance costs. Harvey said staff submitted a CPF request for $1.3 million for a ladder truck with an estimated local match between $200,000 and $300,000 (total purchase roughly $1.5 million). She also asked permission to submit a funding request for water meter upgrades.
"I submitted to Congressman Siscomani a CPF request for $1.3 million for a ladder truck our match for that would be approximately 200, 300,000," Harvey said during the meeting. (Transcript spelling: "Siscomani"; correct name is Congressman Juan Ciscomani.)
Harvey said she filed the request to Congressman Ciscomani retroactively due to a short window and asked permission to also submit the same priorities to Senator Mark Kelly, who does not limit the number of submissions in the same way. Councilmembers discussed the need for the truck, the anticipated federal-match process (USDA Rural Development community facilities rules were cited as the likely path), and the realistic timeline for ordering and receiving apparatus. Johann Wallace moved and Christy Hirshberg seconded approval for staff to submit the requests and to prioritize the ladder truck; the motion passed unanimously.
