Council adds urgency resolution supporting Prop 6 to consent calendar

Councilmembers voted to add a resolution in support of Proposition 6 to the consent calendar under the Brown Act’s urgency provisions so the city’s position can be communicated before the Nov. 5, 2024 election. Supporters during public comment called Prop 6 a necessary step to end forced prison labor. "Involuntary servitude is slavery by another name," Tanisha Cannon said, urging the council to "stand on the right side of history and support this resolution." The council carried the procedural motion to add the item by the required supermajority and later approved the consent calendar including the resolution.
