Curriculum staff told the committee that New Jersey requires annual board approval of curriculum documents at the August meeting and outlined several subject-area updates slated for the full-board agenda.
"The STEAM academy, also we all, added that, new strand of digital media and broadcast journalism," said Speaker 8 (Adrianne), who described a new podcasting course entering its first year. Staff also presented realignments in Algebra 1 and Geometry and adjustments to secondary language-arts standards to align with NJSLA and NJ GPA assessments.
The math sequence changes include spreading algebra standards over two years for some students so they will take the NJSLA algebra assessment after their sophomore year. Staff said updated documents will be posted on the district curriculum website after board approval.
