Spring Grove Public Works Committee discusses truck repairs, salt-brine tank and road-program engineering

The Village of Spring Grove Public Works Committee met Feb. 4, 2026, in the Municipal Centre and discussed fleet maintenance, winter materials storage and the engineering approach for the village road program. Chairman Robb Heaney presided; Member Mike Gajewski attended and Member Bob McMahon was absent. The meeting opened at 10:26 a.m. and adjourned at 12:21 p.m.

Committee members focused early discussion on equipment and fleet life. Members discussed vehicle repairs to truck #50 and the broader expected lifetime of public-works vehicles. The committee also reviewed the age and condition of the salt-brine storage tank and the village’s salt budget in preparation for future winters. The minutes record that "Supervisor Frer will research grant possibilities and reach out to the County for assistance as they use the brine as well," assigning follow-up to Public Works Supervisor Mike Frer.

A separate budget discussion covered wages, rising health-insurance costs, potential extra public-works projects and pavement work such as cut-and-patch and crack sealing. Committee members held a lengthy discussion about road-program engineering options and how to deliver repair work efficiently. Under other business, the minutes note a request from the Spring Grove Elementary PTO for public-works participation in a June 5 "touch a truck" event.

No formal votes on budgets or capital replacements are recorded in the minutes; the only recorded motion was to adjourn the meeting, which carried "All ayes." The committee assigned Frer to pursue grant research and county coordination on brine storage replacement and to report back to the committee.
