Fire department expands prevention programs: CO detectors, EV-sticker and trail safety

Chief Roach reported the fire department installed 36 carbon monoxide detectors this year, will launch a Wilderness Trail Safety program in the fall and distributed EV-sticker decals to help responders identify electric vehicles in garages.
Fire Chief Roach outlined prevention and community-safety efforts underway. He said the fire prevention bureau conducted 114 safety inspections in July and that the department has installed 36 carbon monoxide detectors this calendar year. On a planned outreach program he said, "There's 1 new program they're working on. It's called Wilderness Trail Safety. That should come out sometime this fall."
Chief Roach also described a small-sticker EV-safety program to alert responders to electric vehicles parked inside garages: "We have, a little triangle sticker they can pick up at the fire department downstairs...They can put it on inside the garage or any place that they park." He said residents can call the fire department to request detectors or get a sticker and that the department receives smoke-detector support from the Red Cross when supplies run low. Committee members praised the department’s public education and outreach efforts.
