The Hampshire County Board of Education voted to approve purchase and installation of nightlocks for classroom doors and authorized local deputies and a district delegate to begin fundraising to cover costs. Superintendent Colette told the board the devices had been tested by the sheriff's department and would be provided through community fundraising so "it won't be any cost to us as a county." Colette said the I Love You Guys Foundation and county deputies had been working to secure donations and support for installations.
Board members discussed technical and fire-code concerns and asked about fundraising targets; Colette said Deputy JD Smith had been coordinating donor interest and that each classroom installation program would cost in the low thousands, with earlier conversations estimating about "$5,000." Colette emphasized the devices are designed to slow intruders long enough for a response and said roughly two-thirds of county classroom doors already have approved devices. The motion to approve installation carried by voice vote.
