Council approves switch to enhanced LegalShield group plan for city employees

Staff presented a resolution to convert the currently-offered voluntary LegalShield and IDShield benefit plans for employees to an enhanced group plan available through the city's broker. The presenter said most employees enrolled in the programs will see monthly cost decreases and expanded coverage; three employees may see a minor increase (under $1.50/month) depending on their current bundled or unbundled rate.
The packet included an updated Texas service agreement with required state verbiage and a red-line copy so councilors could see changes. After questions about which services include representation and how employees would access contracted firms, council moved and voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
