Community Development reports steady permitting, plans impact-fee review starting June

Steve, speaking for Community Development, said the department now has 18 employees and has streamlined plan review and developer pre-application meetings to shorten permit turnaround. He presented permit counts (1,282 permits in 2024 and ongoing activity through May), explained that lower average permit fees reflect a larger share of small permits (fences, pool work) and said zoning applications and CUPs are down compared with prior years.
Steve said the city must review impact fees every five years and that staff will begin a consultant-led study on June 8 to determine whether to keep or revise current rates. He also described code-enforcement workload and staffing and asked council to support continued downtown property-maintenance efforts tied to the forthcoming downtown plan.
