Michelle Heit of New Buffalo Township used the meeting’s public-comment period to press the county to address Harbor Country Drive, the main road into New Buffalo.
She told commissioners that New Buffalo Township has committed $890,000 toward the road work and said she understands a contractor quote remains valid through August. "She stated that New Buffalo Township has committed $890,000 of road work, which is County Infrastructure," the minutes record.
The public comment was recorded but the minutes do not show a formal county decision or immediate funding action at the May 21 meeting. Commissioners did not take a vote on the item during the session; the minutes note that the Road Department fund-balance update will be reviewed and shared with commissioners by Interim Administrator Mike Sepic and that Commissioner Julie Wuerfel requested an update regarding the Road Department fund balance.
